Auto City Speedway
June 13th, was Exciting!!
The Buckeye Super Sprint series were the headliners on Budweiser Sprint Spectacular night, but the other divisions thrilled the crowd as well at Auto City on Saturday, June 13th. 2008 series champ Zach Gibson paced qualifying for the sprint cars with a 13.96. Tyler Dun and Talon Stephens took heat race wins. In the 30-lap feature Kevin Shirey jumped ahead and started to pull away. But on lap 12 his right rear began to burn off, causing him to surrender the lead to Ryan Gillenwater. The Canton, Michigan driver led the rest of the way for the victory. Dunn finished second followed by Stephens, Joey Wycoff and Todd Buchanon. Tony Brabbs set fast time for the Dart Modifieds with a 16.30. Mike Luberda, Sr. won the dash while Timmy Near took the heat. It was an exciting 40-lap feature as Steve Thomas took the early lead. Two laps later Near gained the top spot as the entire field battled behind him. On lap 17 Nick Clemons took over the lead and held it until lap 28. Then it was Luberda's turn to pace the field with Brabbs right on his tail. The pressure proved to be too much as Luberda spun in turn 4 with just 4 laps to go. Brabbs took and the veteran won his first feature of the season. Travis Eddy was second followed by Jeff Reamer, Near and Mark Abee.
